Abstract

Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus are bacteria caused dental caries in children. The aim of this reseach is to know the activity of ethanolic extract of green tea and its toothpaste product against S. mutans and L. acidophilus. One of green tea product from Indonesia was used as sample and was extracted by remaceration method using 70 % and 90 % ethanol, respectively. Toothpaste products were making gel and paste dosageform. Antibacterial activity was tested by diffusion agar method using Muller Hinton Agar for S. mutans and Mann Rogosa Sharpe Agar for L. acidophilus. The results were showed that 90% ethanolic extract of green tea had total pholyphenol and antibacterial activity better than 70% ethanolic extract. Toothpaste content 5 % extract of green tea had antibacterial activity against S. mutans more than L.acidophilus.
