Abstract

Leguminous plants generally and chickpea particularly are quite difficult to regenerate in vitro. Grain legumes represent one of the most valuable sources of proteins for human and animal nutrition. The chickpea, Cicer arietinum L. (Fabales: Fabaceae), is one of the most important grain-legume crops in the world. The major objective of this study was to overcome the notoriously recalcitrant behavior of chickpea in in-vitro culturing. This work has investigated the comparative study of effect of different germination methods on chickpea embryo growth. The results emphasized that the effect of pre-treatment of seeds, type of growth regulators, their concentrations alone and in combination cause a significant effect on the growth of embryo in culture conditions.
