Abstract
The present investigation was carried out to study the effect of elevated CO2 on growth and yield of Brassica juncea under different water and nitrogen levels in Climate Change Research facility at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. The experiment consisted of twelve treatment combinations of CO2, water and nitrogen with quadruple replications laid in factorial CRD. The plants were grown under ambient (390ppm) and elevated CO2 (550 ppm) following different water and nitrogen regimes. Plants grown under elevated CO2 condition performed better than ambient CO2 irrespective of water or nitrogen levels with higher plant height (187.75 cm), root length (37.75 cm), root dry weight (15.92 g/pot), shoot dry weight (136.74 g/pot), seed yield (72.002 g/pot) and harvest index (32.67%). The results revealed that water stress significantly decreased yield and yield attributes but increased nitrogen levels were observed to be ameliorating its negative impact with a higher magnitude under elevated CO2.
