INCREASING ECOLOGICAL VALENCE PLANTS TO LEAD

Gladkov Yevgeny Aleksandrovich, Dolgikh Yuliya Ivanovna and Gladkova Olga Victorovna

Abstract

Lawn - a basis of a grassy cover of Moscow, its role in unfavorable environmental situation is growing steadily. The urban conditions are extremely unfavorable for the growth of lawn grass, because of the high level of contamination with heavy metals. The adverse ecological situation in the large cities, forces us to think of need of a new strategy of gardening in which, importance is of use of technologies capable to increase resistance of plants to city conditions. The authors develop the technology of obtaining Agrostis stolonifera plants resistant to lead. Most of the test plants produced from lead-resistant cells was more tolerant to lead than original plants. The introduction of this technology in the selection process will significantly reduce the adverse effects of toxicants on an important component of urban lawns – Agrostis stolonifera. Therefore, by means of cell selection it is possible to raise a ecological valence to these lead and partially to solve the most important environmental problem of city gardening – decorative effect loss, at rather low level of pollution and in certain cases partial degradation of city lawns at the raised level of lead in a soil cover.
