INCIDENCE OF ENDOPHYTIC FUNGI AND OCURRENCE OF BEAUVERIA AND PAECILOMYCES IN MAIZE (ZEA MAYS L.) UNDER FIELD AND GREENHOUSE CONDITIONS

Abstract

Endophytic fungi were isolated from tropical host maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars in Brazil, of leaves and stems from plants in field and in greenhouse. Plants were collected at twenty and forty days after seed germination. Nine groups of fungi were isolated: Colletotrichum sp., Fusarium sp., Acremonium sp., Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., Mycelia sterilia, Beauveria sp., Paecilomyces sp. and dematiaceous fungi. Among these, two important entomopathogenic fungi, Beauveria sp. and Paecilomyces sp., were isolated from both field and greenhouse plants. Qualitatives and quantitatives differences were detected regarding the mycobiota from field hosts when compared to greenhouse ones.
