Abstract
Seven typical pedons from steep hill ranges to valleys from West coast of Southern Karnataka were studied for characterization and assessing the land quality particularly related to soil organic carbon stocks. The soils were classified into Ultisols. The highest SOC stocks (14.20 Kgm-2) were repoted in Pedon-3 (Kollur), followed by Pedon-7 (Ullal) and Pedon- 2 (Beltangadi). Pedon-4 (Molahalli) had low soil organic carbon stock (1.71 kgm-2)
