INVESTIGATION ON VIABILITY OF RANGPUR LIME SEEDS AND THEIR EFFECT ON ROOTSTOCK CHARACTERS

Abstract

The seeds of Rangpur lime were extracted from fruit and kept under ambient condition. Among the different treatments, the seeds sown on day of extraction (16.07) took minimum number of days for initiation of germination, whereas seeds sown on nine days after extraction (19.00 & 28.00) took minimum number of days to attain 50 per cent and completion of germination. Highest germination percentage (96.67 per cent) was observed in seeds sown on six days after extraction, germination vigour index (0.31 days) was observed in seeds sown on day after extraction and highest rootstock diameter (6.14 mm) was observed in seeds sown on three days after extraction. Highest rootstock height (91.87 cm), number of leaves (36.47), primary root length (24.00 cm), number of secondary roots (43.67), rootstock fresh weight (47.00 g), dry weight (19.33 g) and root volume (8.03 ml) was observed in seeds sown on nine days after extraction of seeds, whereas minimum observation parameters were observed in twenty seven days after extraction of seeds. The germination percentage ranged from 96.67 to 66.67.
