IMPACT OF PHEROMONES TO THE INSECT PESTS IN FRUITS OF SYZYGIUM TRAVANCORICUM GAMBLE. - A CRITICALLY ENDANGERED TREE SPECIES OF SOUTHERN WESTERN GHATS, INDIA

A. Hussain and C. Anilkumar

Abstract

The fruits of Syzygium travaccouricum Gamble. were severely infected by some insect pests. Infestation of the seed pests damaged 90-98% of the mature fruits. The percentage of infection can be reduced to 35 - 45% effectively by the application of pheromone (Methyl euginol) during the time of fruit setting in the natural habitat of the plants. Thus the poor seed germination percentage can be up lifted to a promising level.
