HYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF PRESSURE COMPENSATING AND NON-PRESSURE COMPENSATING EMITTERS

A. Derbala

Abstract

The experiments were carried out to study the hydraulic performance of pressure compensating (PC) and non-pressure compensating (NPC) emitters. Different parameters such as emitter discharge (q), emitter discharge exponent (x), discharge coefficient of variation (Cv), standard deviation values of emitter discharge (Sq), statistical uniformity coefficient (Us), emitter flow variation (qvar.), emission uniformity (Eu), and distribution uniformity (Du) were used to evaluate the emitters under different operating pressure levels based on the manufacturersÂ’ technical data. The results at 100 kPa operating pressure revealed that, the (q) values were (8.39, 10.49, 8.41, 3.78 and 3.71 L h-1) for In-line168, Hydrogol, Katif8, Katif4, and Matic, respectively. In addition, the (x) values were (0.54, 0.54, -0.04, -0.09 and 0.16) for In-line168, Hydrogol, Katif8, Katif4, and Matic, respectively. The (Cv) values were (3.14, 4.44, 1.96, 2.8 and 12.3%) for In-line168, Hydrogol, Katif8, Katif4, and Matic, respectively. Also, the (qvar.) values were (12.05, 17.12, 7.22, 10.5 and 38.14%) for In-line 168, Hydrogol, Katif8, Katif4, and Matic, respectively. The (Eu) values were (96.63, 94.61, 97.14, 96.16 and 85.16%) for In-line168, Hydrogol, Katif8, Katif4, and Matic, respectively. In addition, the (Du) values were (96.53, 94.44, 95.92, 97.32 and 85.23%) for In-line168, Hydrogol, Katif8, Katif4, and Matic, respectively. The study recommended that Hydrogol emitter at 100 kPa operating pressure has highest discharge (10 Lh-1), the emitters distance was 0.15 m. Also, the (Cv) was less than 5%, the (Eu) was higher than 90% and the emitters were easy to install.
