Abstract

An attempt was made to analyze the growth in area, production and productivity of mustard in Madhya Pradesh. Compound growth rates were estimated by fitting the exponential function to the district-wise data pertaining to the period 1994-95 to 2013-14. Study find that the decline in area under rapeseed and mustard is the main reason for decline in production highlighting the need of brining more area under rapeseed and mustard cultivation. Improving the productivity is also very important to increase the cultivation of rapeseed and mustard as there was not much growth on productivity during the study period. The substantial improvement in production has been noticed due to concerted efforts on rapeseed-mustard development in the state of Madhya Pradesh as well as in the country, resulting in a positive growth rate in area and production of rapeseed-mustard.
