Abstract

This research work focus on assessment of hydro geochemical characteristics ofCoimbatore district in Tamilnadu, India. Representative samples were collected processed and analysed for 21 physico –chemical parameters in the laboratory using APHA (21st edition) procedures from 60 locations in the study area . The values obtained were compared with water quality standards prescribed by BIS (IS 10500) parameters considered in this study are pH, EC, TDS, TH, cation is observation like Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, anion is observation like HCO3 -,Cl-, SO4 2, and PO4 2-. Statistical analysis revealed skewness is in the order of 5 for iron and Turbidity, Kurtosis is least for TDS and K. Hydrochemical facies denote the hardness of ground water in the study area is high based on calcium and magnesium content. Principle component is high for EC is in the range of 0.489, eigen vectors are in the order of 2.075. Based on the results obtained it is found that part of the study area possess unsuitable groundwater quality.
