Abstract

The aim of the present study investigates the diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in various district of Tamil Nadu, India. Totally 58 different mycorrhizal fungi belonging to 5 genera are Glomus (28 species), Scutellospora (14 species), Acaulospora (1 species), Gigasporav (4 species) and Sclerocystis (7 species) were isolated from rhizosphere soil samples by Wet Sieving and Decanting technique. The dispersion of mycorrhizal spores were varied. It was studied that Glomus was predominant in number when compared to other genera. Number of occurrence time of Glomus mossae was high (108) as compared to other species. Among the 32 districts in Tamil Nadu the Shannon-weiner Index of diversity were found to be higher at Madurai, Simpson’s index of dominance was higher at Tirunelveli. The statistical analysis of diversity was also revealed by calculating alpha diversity, beta diversity and gamma diversity.
