Abstract

Banyuru (Pterospermum celebicum Miq.) is one of the specific plant barks that has the potential to be developed as a source of antibacterial agent. Experiment study regarding antibacterial activity of ethanol extract stem bark Banyuru aims to determine the size of the inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus mutan and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the content of total flavonoid compounds. The ethanol used to test the antibacterial activity is a diffusion method is clear. Stem bark Banyuru (Pterospermum celebicum Mq.) Extraction by maceration using ethanol and examine the potential for MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) taking tetracycline antibiotics as a positive control. The results showed the ethanol extract of the stem bark banyuru potentially with a concentration of 1000 ppm, has a high inhibitory zone with antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus mutan, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with a inhibition value of 16.12; 15.98; 15.28 and 15.00 mm. Qualitative and quantitative identification, there is a total of 1.0605% flvonoid compound calculated as quercetin.
