Abstract

The present investigation was carried out on “Micropropagation in custard apple (Annona squamosa L.)” with objective to develop commercially feasible and economically viable protocol for micropropagation technique of custard apple. While standardization of micropropagation in custard apple, effect of different plant growth regulators on multiplication of culture of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. Balanagar were examined. In order to study the multiplication rate, eight different treatments involving various levels of BAP and kinetin were tested for two types of explants (shoot tip and axillary bud explants). The result revealed that in axillary bud explants, maximum frequency of multiple shoots (76.17%) was registered in treatment M8 (MS medium + 2.0 mg/L BAP with 0.5 mg/L kinetin) followed by M7 and M4. Similarly shoot tip explants performed also better for frequency of multiple shoots in treatment M8, which registered 59.67 percent. Overall, it could be seen that M8 medium is the best for higher frequency of multiple shoots for both types of explants studied. Among the explants types tested, the axillary bud explants showed better response for frequency of multiple shoots.
