Abstract

This paper tends to analyze the two year long continuous measurement of the gaseous pollutant O3 present in the ambient air at a rural coastal area along the Bay of Bengal. The observed concentration of the pollutant in the study region is a function of time. The diurnal pattern of the ground level ozone concentration reveals a mid-day peak associated with lower nocturnal concentration. Ground level ozone concentration is seen to be high during the summer and premonsoon seasons owing to higher temperature and soft winds which favours the build-up of ozone in this period. Ozone concentrations are observed to be lower during the north-east and winter seasons as a result of the unfavorable meteorological conditions.
