EFFECT OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON CUCUMBER (CUCUMIS SATIVUS L.) UNDER PROTECTED CULTIVATION IN MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA

Abstract

The present study was conducted with the view of reducing main stem length and early development of cucumber for productivity enhancement and early development using various plant growth regulators at the Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh during winter season 2015 in naturally ventilated poly house with variety Multi Star. Two plant growth regulators were sprayed on to plants at the two and four leaf stages. Two of the growth regulator maleic hydrazide and ethephon each were applied at 200 and 300 ppm. The experiment comprised 9 treatments and was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications. The results revealed that influence of the plant growth regulators was variable on the morphological traits of cucumber but the floral and yield traits were significantly affected by a combined application of maleic hydrazide @ 200 ppm and ethephon 200 ppm. This treatment induced early development and maximized yield. This treatment also produced best economic results for the production of cucumber.
