NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT IN MAIZE THROUGH NUTRIENT OMISSION PLOT TECHNIQUE IN TYPIC HAPLUSTEPTS

Abstract

A field experiment on nutrient omission plot technique was conducted at Instructional Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, and Udaipur during kharif season 2014 with maize as test crop. The experiment had 12 treatments, laid out in Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatment comprised of T1 (NPK+ S+ Zn+ B + FYM), T2:T1-FYM, T3:T1-Zn, T4:T1-B, T5:T1-S, T6: T1-P, T7:T1-N, T8:T1-K, T9:T1-S-Zn-B, T10:T1- PK, T11:T1-NPK and T12: Absolute control (no nutrient applied). The dose of NPK at 90- 40- 40 kg/ha, Zn at 5 kg/ha, S at 40 kg/ha, B at 1 kg/ha and FYM 10 t/ha were applied as per treatment details. The results showed that N was most limiting nutrient followed by P in alone and NPK in combination and there was a reduction in the grain yield to the tune of 32.87, 18.92, 42.07 per cent due to omission of N, P alone and NPK in combination, respectively. The application of treatment with recommended plant nutrients T1 (NPK+ S+ Zn+ B + FYM) increased the yield attributes i.e. no. of cob per plant, grains per cob, weight of grain per cob, seed index and grain and stover yield. The highest grain, stover and biological yield (2859 4437, 7297 kg ha-1) of maize were recorded under this treatment.
