ROLE OF PEROXIDASE AND ITS ISOZYMES IN LEAF-SPOT DISEASE OF MULBERRY CAUSED BY BOTRYODIPLODIA THEOBROMAE

Abstract

In healthy mulberry plants the levels of peroxidase was high in resistant varieties than susceptible local variety plants to leaf-spot disease caused by the fungus B.theobromae. Their activity after infection increased more in the resistant varieties than in local susceptible variety. Electrophoretic separation of peroxidase isoenzymes showed that infected leaves contained increased number of isoenzymes of peroxidase compared to their healthy counterparts.
