DESIGN AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF SMALL WOODEN PURSE SEINERS OF RATNAGIRI, MAHARASHTRA (INDIA)

Abstract

For the small wooden purse seiners ranging from 11 to 15 m in overall length in operation from Mirkarwada Fishing Harbour, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, the breadth at mid ship was 3.4 m to 7.04 m, depth 1.52 to 2.89 m, length of freeboard was 0.6258 to 1.19 m, draught observed was 0.8941 to 1.7 m and length of keel was 8.81 to 12.46 m. Gross tonnage recorded was between 32.11-84.6 tons. Small wooden purse seiners were fitted with Ashok Leyland six cylinder inboard engines having horse power ranging between 87 to 280 hp with a average fuel consumption of 17 l/hr.
