Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the qualitative, test antioxidants and toxicity tests on extract of leaves Mangrove "Api-Api" (Avicennia sp). This research is an experimental study with a sample of leaves mangrove "Api-Api" derived from the coasts of Takalar Regency. Stages of the research is leaves of Mangrove "Api-Api" dried in a drying room, then crushed and then extracted with 88% ethanol. Extract Mangrove "Api-Api" then analyzed qualitatively to determine the content of alkaloids contained in it, then proceed with the antioxidant test to see its potential as an antioxidant, and subsequently undertaken toxicity tests to determine whether the extract is toxic or not. The results showed that the extract of mangrove Api-Api (Avicennia sp), contains flavonoids, polyphenols, and coumarin which have the ability as an antioxidant and is based on the results of toxicity tests it was shown that an extract of Mangrove Api-Api (Avicennia sp) is not toxic to a concentration of 50% based on the observation on Mice for up to 7 days. Thus, extract of mangrove Api-Api (Avicennia sp) has the potential to be developed as additives in functional foods as anti-oxidant.
