ISOLATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND OPTIMIZATION OF ALKALINE PROTEASE PRODUCING NOVEL MARINE FUNGI CLADOSPORIUM CLADOSPORIOIDES

RUDRAKSH MADKAIKAR AND VIDYA TALE

Abstract

Protease producing novel fungi was isolated from marine water sample and characterized in the present study. Molecular phylogeny of fungus was determined by amplifying genomic partial ITS region and was identified as Cladosporium cladosporioides. Process parameters influencing the production of alkaline protease by Cladosporium cladosporioides such as pH, temperature and the effect of carbon and nitrogen sources were optimized. Optimum protease production was observed by Cladosporium cladosporioides at pH 9 and temperature 25oC. Amongst different carbon and nitrogen sources used, maximum protease was produced using starch and lysine respectively.
