Abstract
Increasing demand in transport fuel lead to discovery of Jatropha, Pongamia plants along with Microalgae for biofuel production. In the present work Biodiesel was produced from Lipase mediated trans-esterification of Algal oil obtained from Botryococcus braunii. Before transesterification, Free Fatty Acid (FFA) content in algal oil was reduced and yield of biodiesel was 68.70%, 92% before and after the reduction of FFA respectively. Since lipase is non-toxic, recyclable, and lipase mediated trans-esterification can be carried out at 350-400 C. Based on these observations lipase mediated trans-esterification is more beneficial than chemical trans-esterification, which can be carried out at 600-65oC.
