Abstract

The greatest challenge of today’s environment is to control the growing population of Prosopis juliflora. This study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of a controversial alien species called Prosopis juliflora. The major analytical concern of the study is to estimate the impact of Prosopis juliflora on soil by the analysis of physiochemical, microbiological and heavy metal parameters of soil. The soil characteristic study was made on Perambalur District at two different areas agricultural land and water body. In agricultural land and water body land two samples were taken at a depth of 5 cm and 10 cm respectively. The soil samples were collected far away from Prosopis Juliflora to determine the impacted soil characteristics. This study finally shows the environmental impact of Prosopis juliflora on soil.
