Abstract

Chromium (VI) and Arsenic (III) were highly toxic heavy metals used in a various process for manufacturing lot of products and this metals emitted to the environment create enormous problems. Residue red mud generates during the production of alumina creates environmental issues. In the present work, Batch mode adsorption process took place in the removal of heavy metals Chromium (VI) and Arsenic (III) using a low cost material residue red mud. The uptake of heavy metals by the adsorbent was analyzed by using various parameters like adsorption pH, Adsorbent dosage, Contact time and Initial ions concentration. The equilibrium studies were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and the maximum adsorption capacity of adsorbent was determined using Langmuir isotherm model found to be 13.33 mg/ g and12.5 mg/g for Chromium (VI) and Arsenic (III), respectively. The mechanism of adsorption process follows Pseudo-second order model.
