Abstract

Nowadays, the renewable energy sources usage has increased due to demand of fossil fuel gas and oil reserves, which increases the usage of power electronics system. This paper deals with design of a bidirectional converter (BC), where PV is used to charge the battery through BC for enhancing power density. This combined renewable energy sources and grid are more adequate to run the battery operated electric vehicle (BEV) as well as transferring excessive energy to the grid. During charging, the photovoltaic (PV) will produce energy to charge the BEV and also charge the BEV from the grid too, when required. During discharging, the excessive energy from BEV is transferred into the grid through DC link. The control strategy is achieved by using fuzzy proportional integral (PI) controller, which improves voltage gain and efficiency as well as reliability to the BEV. The performances of the proposed BC have been evaluated and analysed using MATLAB/ Simulink.
