Abstract

The new generation of common rail fuel injection system for Russian locomotive diesel engines was developed by Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI). A distinctive feature of this fuel system is the ability to injection rate shaping. The method of control of injection rate shape using an electric impulse was proposed which is applied to the electromagnet of the control valve of the Common Rail (CR) injector. The development of the CR system and perfection of its working process was carried out using the calculation-experimental complex developed in MADI. Variation of the injection rate shape by the control electric impulses requires matching with the injection value rate set. The use of the method is limited by the injector needle valve dynamics, control valve response and wave propagation effects in the injector.
