Abstract

The present study was carried out on two pristine and polluted streams namely Barna and Jamner(India) respectively. Barna is one of the major tributaries of Narmada River while Jamner is tributary of Barna. The study was undertaken to identify the variation in physicochemical properties of Barna and Jamner streams in post monsoon and winter. For this study, the samples were collected at four different stations from both the streams. It was observed during the study that at Barna stream almost all parameters like pH, alkalinity, total hardness, TDS, DO, nitrate and orthophosphate were recorded within the permissible limits of BIS while at Jamner stream some parameters like pH, total hardness, Ca hardness and alkalinity were observed beyond the limits of BIS. This indicates that the Barna stream was observed as pristine due to less anthropogenic pressures and the water of Jamner stream is polluted.
