Abstract
Copper slag (CS) is one of the materials that is considered as a by-product obtained during the metal smelting and refining of copper. Copper slag is obtained as waste product from the Sterlite Industries Ltd. (SIL), Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, India. It has the physical properties similar to the fine aggregate, so it can be used as a replacement for fine aggregates in concrete. Many researchers have investigated the use of copper slag in the production of cement as clinker and as replacement for cement in mortar. This paper presents the results of study undertaken to investigate the feasibility of using copper slag as fine aggregate in concrete. The effect of replacing fine aggregate by copper slag with various percentages ranging from 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 80% and 100% in concrete by cubes, cylinders and beams to evaluated the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength. The results showed the effect of copper slag on RCC concrete elements has a considerable amount of increase in the compressive, split tensile and flexural strength characteristics.
