Abstract

In this work, putrescible vegetable, an everyday waste was chemically converted into activated carbon with an acid and a base and was used for the adsorption of organic contaminants present in the wastewater. The adsorption equilibrium of the process was studied using isotherms. This study also includes the effects of dosage on pH, turbidity and color of waste water. From the kinetic studies done previously, we found that pseudo second order equation gave the best fit when plotted for kinetic data among pseudo first order equation, pseudo second order, Elovich equation and fractional power model. Both Freundlich isotherm and Langmuir isotherm were plotted and analyzed for better understanding the system and based on the regression coefficient, it was concluded that Langmuir isotherm best defines the adsorption process for both acid activated and base activated carbon.
