Abstract
This study aims to determine the influence of the peat forest conversion into oil palm plantations on emissions and CH4 gas reserves, as well as the environmental factors that influence emissions and CH4 gas reserves, in East Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The results showed that the conversion of peat forests into plantations significant effect on the increase of oil and spare CH4 emissions, temperature, DO, soil moisture, but significant effect on the decrease in pH and water table. Emissions CH4 in the oil fields of 0:44 to 3:06 mg m-2h-1; 0:42 peat forests -3.92 mg m- 2h-1. Reserves CH4 in the oil field by 0004 - 0:31 mg m-2h-1; the peat forest 0.005-0.45 mg m-2h-1. Water table significantly correlated with emissions of CH4 (r = 0.630; p <0.05), together in soil temperature and soil temperature around the chamber a significant effect on em the contents of CH4(R2 = 0.6398) and contributed most by 43.97%.Water-table significantly correlated with reserves of CH4 (r = 0.630; p <0.05), together with soil temperature, soil moisture, soil pH significantly influence the reserves CH4(R2 =0.3082) and contributed most of 19:28 %.
