Abstract

Experimental studies have been carried out to find out the biodegradation of methylparathion with the help of ammonium sulphate and ammonium molybdate. Methyl-parathion is one of the highly demandable pesticide used by farmers. Present study deals with biodegradation of toxic parathion into its nontoxic form. In this experiment ten bacterial strains such as P76, ZS20, PS11.1, E57, B11, ZS3, PS46, P64, ZS16 and PS71 have been used for the biodegradation of water insoluble methyl-parathion into soluble phosphate compounds. It has been found that ammonium molybdate compound can help bacterial bio-degradation of parathion at the faster rate than its absence. This rate is further increased by the presence of ammonium sulphate. In presence of molybdenum ion bacteria secretes higher concentration of phosphatase enzyme. The presence of soluble phosphate in the media have been confirmed through molybdenum blue method and LC-MS analysis. The presence of phosphatase enzyme activity has been confirmed through para-nitro phenyl phosphate enzymatic assay. Hence, molybdenum ion acts as catalytic agent for secretion of phosphatase enzyme. Ammonium sulphate acts as the promoter. So, the combination of ammonium sulphate, ammonium molybdate and the bacterial strains act as potent methyl-parathion solubilizer and reduce the toxicity level of environment.
