ESTIMATION OF UPLIFT CAPACITY OF VERTICAL PILE IN COHESIONLESS SOIL UNDER UPLIFT LOAD

R. Saravanan, P.D. Arumairaj and T. Subramani

Abstract

A model study is conducted to estimate the effects of uplift load in vertical piles with different embedment length (L/d) to diameter ratios. A mild steel 12 mm diameter solid rod is selected as a model pile and the L/ D ratios are used as 8.33, 12.50, 16.67 and 20.83. The loose condition of sand is selected as foundation medium. In this model study, the load displacement behavior of vertical pile is estimated under uplift loads. An attempt has been made to evaluate the value of uplift co-efficient (Ku) from the experimental results and compared with previous literature studies.
