THE FAMILY HEALTH EMPOWERMENT IN THE STROKE PREVENTION IN THE PUSKESMAS OF ULEE KARENG, BANDA ACEH, INDONESIA

Abstract

The stroke is a disease that occurs suddenly without accompanied by early symptoms. The stroke has been the leading cause of the death in almost all hospitals in Indonesia where the stroke is the first cause of the death in Aceh. The study aims to obtain a model of stroke prevention using the empowering families. The participants are the hypertensive patients in the puskesm as (primary health care) of Ulee Karen of Banda Aceh-Indonesia. The study is conducted from February to November 2017 using the participatory action research (PAR) method and using the Independent T-Test statistic test. The results showed that the mean blood pressure value before PAR was 154,84 / 91.34 mmHg and after PAR was 136.25 / 84.84 mmHg, with p-value 0.00. The mean values of cholesterol before and after the PAR were 224.06 mg/dL and 202.03 mg/dL, respectively with p-value 0.00. the mean value of uric acid before and after were 6.91 mg/dL and 6.11 mg/dL, respectively with p-value 0.00. It can be concluded that the stroke prevention model found in the family members with hypertension has a great influence to prevent stroke.
