Abstract

The aqueous cadmium is recognized as the principal toxicant to fishes and their exposure resulted indecreased oxygen consumption in fish. Indian major carp C.catla is an important cultured fish species dueto its fast growth and economic value. The present study is proposed to assess the cadmium toxicity (20ppmCdNP/kg) on the histopathological changes in the heart and blood of fish C. catla. The CdNP exposed tissues of heart muscles showed congestion and atrophy, cardiac muscles showed haemorrhage and haemolysis and myocardial fibers degeneration observed could be attributed to the excessive CdNPsexposure. The haematological results showed severe anaemia, reduced RBC count with high haematocritvalues due macrocytic anaemia, anisocytosis and poikilocytosis fishes after CdNPs exposure.
