WATERS CHEMICAL CONTAMINATION ANALYSIS REGARDING COMMUNITIES FLOATING FISH CAGE AT LAKE TOBA, NORTH SUMATERA, INDONESIA

Mindo Tua Siagian and Ivan Elisabeth Purba

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the relationship between the communities Floating Fish Cage waste to the quality of the waters at Lake Toba. The data that were used to calculate the rate of waters quality at Lake Toba include the rate of physical and chemical factors based on waters velocity, the depths, and the distance from Floating Fish Cage. The physics factors analyzed in this research include the rate of pH and the temperature in waters and the chemical factors include the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and the nutrient content in waters. Floating fish cage activities in the waters of the lake have given a positive impact economically, because it adds more value to the water resources, but it is also highly vulnerable to environmental issues.
