Abstract

Water hyacinth and rice husk are naturally abundant and are well known as agricultural waste, despite their combined potential usage as source of fuel in the form of briquette. This study aims to determine the quality of briquette produced by the combustion of water hyacinth and rice husk by measuring its calorific and firmness value. The study was conducted with two variable designs, the charcoal combinations of rice husk: water hyacinth (1:1 (A1), 1:2 (A2), 1:3 (A3)), and the percentage of tapioca binder (3% (P1), 4% (P2), 5% (P3)). Based on the calorific value determination, A3P3 has the highest calorific value (2307 kcal/kg). While A2P2 showed the highest firmness (1174.4 g/cm2) based on the firmness assay of water hyacinths -rice husks briquette using tapioca binder. However, both A3P3 and A2P2 briquette were not up to the standards of charcoal briquette (SNI 01-6235-2000).
