Abstract
Spirulina and Arthrospira cyanoprokaryota species include a wide variety of laboratory microorganism culture collections and their traditional storage by means of isolate passages does not provide long-term preservation. The rationale for this study is to evaluate the possibility of long-term low temperature storage of Spirulina subsalsa and Arthrospira platensis cyanoprokaryota. Cyanoprokaryota biomass was stored for 12 months at â80°C in glucose and dimethylsulfoxide solutions as cryoprotectants. The cooling rate wasâ1°C. The results of the comparative studies on cyanoprokaryota cultivation before and after long-term cryopreservation are presented in the present article. It was determined that optimal cryoprotectants were 10% glucose and10% dimethylsulfoxide solutions, as well as their combination (10% glucose solution + 10% dimethylsulfoxide solution). The obtained data showed that S. subsalsa and A. platensis preserved their viability after 12 months of cryopreservation. Materials of the article can contribute to the development of efficient biotechnological method of Spirulina and Arthrospira cyanoprokaryotacryo preservation or can be used for improvement of long-term storage methods for different microorganisms cultures.
