IN VITRO PHOSPHATE SOLUBILIZATION BY AZOSPIRIILLIUM SP. SCPSBV4. OBTAINED FROM THE LADYFINGER RHIZOSPHERE

VAIBHAV NIRALA AND CHAYANIKA PUTATUNDA

Abstract

Phosphate solubilizing microbes play a very crucial role in the phosphorus cycle by converting insoluble form of phosphorus into the soluble form, thus making it available for plant uptake. The present investigation was carried out with the aim of isolating and characterizing phosphate solubilizing bacteria from the rhizosphere of ladyfinger plant. The experimentation yielded 19 isolates from three samples. Out of these the isolate SCPSBV4 showed the maximum phosphorous solubilization during secondary screening and was selected for further optimization and characterization. The incubation period of 72 hours, glucose as the carbon source, ammonium sulphate as nitrogen source, and pH 7 were found to be most suitable for solubilization by the isolate. The isolate was identified Azospirillium sp. SCPSBV4 on the basis of the 16srDNA sequence (Genebank Accession Number: KJ940981).
