BEHAVIOUR AND THE INFLUENCE OF METEOROLOGICAL PARAMETERS TOWARDS AIR POLLUTANT DISPERSION MODELING STUDIES, MANALI INDUSTRIAL AREA, CHENNAI, INDIA

J. Karthick and R. Samuel Devadoss

Abstract

In this paper the influence and behaviour of meteorological data towards Air Pollutant Dispersion Modelling studies were investigated. The Air pollutant Dispersion modelling was carried out at Manali Industrial Area. The air pollutants Dispersion studies are highly influenced by two Major factors namely Meteorological factors and Emission factors. Location of sampling station also plays a key role in Dispersion Modelling studies, Sampling stations are to be located considering the path of predominant Wind directions and Wind Speed. The Meteorological data for the year 2015 and 2016 were collected from the Meteorological Department, Chennai. The Meteorological data includes Wind speed, Wind Direction, Ambient Temperature, Atmospheric Stability, Rural Mixing Height and Urban Mixing Height. All these parameters were used as Inputin the WR-PLOT software and the Wind-rose Diagrams were plotted for the Manali Industrial Area for the Year 2015 and 2016. From the plotted Wind-Rose Diagrams it is observed that the predominant wind movements for the Manali Industrial Area are the NORTH, NORTH-EAST, SOUTH-EAST. Hence sampling stations are to be located along these directions for optimum observation and to proceed the Air Pollutants Dispersion Studies.
