DIVERSITY AND ABUNDANCE OF CORAL REEF FISH SPECIES IN THE COASTAL WATERS OF SALAHUTU SUB-DISTRICT, CENTRAL MOLUCCAS REGENCY – INDONESIA

Abstract

Marine and coastal waters are areas that are very potential in supporting the lives of traditional fishermen and increasing the source of family economic income. The objectives of this study include identifying coral reef fishes caught in fishing nets in sea and coastal waters, 2) Calculating coral fish diversity indices caught by fishing nets in marine and coastal waters, 3) Calculating the abundance of coral reef fishes caught in fishing nets in sea and coastal waters. Identification of coral reef fish species is done through morphological and anatomical observations. The results of the identification show the number of coral reef fish species caught in Salahutu District waters, Central Moluccas Regency, as many as 33 species consisting of 20 genera with 12 families of species diversity. There are 29 species of fish found in the transplant area: Labridae, Ariidae, Caesionidae, Priacanthidae, Acanthuridae, Scrombridae, Serranidae, Luntjunidae, Carangida, Haemulidae, Mullidae, Holocentridae. The highest diversity of coral reef fish species atdesun Waiuru station II was (H’) = 3.138, followed by station III with diversity index of (H’) = 3.138, medium category and station I with diversity index (H ‘) = 1.25 categories medium. There was an abundance of diurnal and noctornalcoral reef fishes caught in Salahutu Sub-District waters, Central Moluccas Regency. The average abundance of coral reef fishes in station II was 0.737m2, in station I was0.355m2 and instation III was 0.407 m2.
