Abstract
Anti microbial proteins (AMPs) are the major components of the defence system in marine invertebrates. They are present in a wide range of organisms from bacteria to vertebrates. The haemolymph of crustacean have been potent antimicrobial peptide described against several human pathogens. In the present investigation, novel peptides was isolated from the haemolymph of the marine crab Portunus pelagicus. It showed a molecular mass of 27KDa by SDS-PAGE. The molecular mass of the purified haemolymph samples were determined by electroscopy ionization mass spectrometer with an electrostatic ion spray source.
