Abstract

The Textile industry consumes high amount of water during the dyeing and finishing process. Dyes are extensively used and hence waste water discharged is highly contaminated and it affects aquatic ecosystem. In this work photocatalytic degradation of two dyes Methylene Blue and Reactive Red 152 in aqueous solution with ZnO as photocatalyst with 254 nm U.V. light has been carried out. The effect of various parameters such as catalyst concentration, pH and concentration of dyes on decolorisation and degradation of dyes on Methylene Blue and Reactive Red 152 were studied. Irradiations of textile dyes by using ZnO/UV light were used for effective degradation and decolorisation.
