Abstract

Plastic has become an issue in municipal waste management. The proportion of multilayer plastic has high proportion compared to municipal plastic waste that is discarded to TPS. The potential of recovery of multilayer plastic by informal sector is still low. Multilayer plastic for food packaging generally consist of LDPE film, PP, adhesive, and aluminium foil. The aim of this study is to convert and analyze the valorisation of multilayer plastic waste. Thermal-pyrolysis conversion using batch reactor would generate hydrocarbon liquid, gas, char, tar, and secondary aluminium solid. The pyrolysis process was conducted in the range of temperature 350 to 425 oC for 60 until 120 minutes. The result of those temperature variations compared with the process using zeolite catalyst at variation dosage 5, 10, 15, and 50% (w/w) of multilayer plastic. Based on statistical analysis, the temperature 400 oC could be used as temperature for the catalyzed process. The result through temperature and duration processing time showed 425 oC and 120 minutes generated liquid and gas product 30.2 % and 5.99% respectively. While the temperature 350 oC generated residue with 97.34%.
