A STUDY OF EFB (EMPTY FRUIT BUNCH) FOR FUEL OF INDONESIAN BIOMASS BOILER

Intan Ayu Pratiwi and Helmi Dadang Ardiansyah

Abstract

The higher palm oil production has other benefit for power generator from EFB (empty fruit bunch) as residual product from palm oil plant. Properties of EFB figures of potential heat production for boiler comparing with fiber or shell as general boiler fuels in palm mill. Despite caloritic caloric value of EFB indicate almost same with fiber for some condition, however high potential impacts could occur during combustion for boiler due to its characteristic. Some studies related with EFB as Biomass Boiler are presented in this study in order to get larger view on potential and challenge of Empty Fruit Bunch. EFB could be used as biomass boiler because big availability in Indonesia and higher of caloritic value. The issue of EFB is composition of alkali metal that is making poor combustion effect such as ash deposit, slagging as well as fouling.
