A SURVEY OF ALGAL FLORA IN THE WATER BODIES OF KALADY,KERALA, INDIA

Abstract

A survey of ponds in the KaladyPanchayath of Aluvataluk,Kerala was undertaken from January 2018 toJanuary 2019. Out of the 42 ponds surveyed 85% are used for domestic purpose other than drinking andirrigation; 15% are unused. Algal blooms were empirical in 28 ponds. Algal flora comprised of bothCholoropycean and Cyanophycean members. They were observed as scums or mat on the surface of theponds.
