Abstract

Textile industries are one of the core industries which discharges heavy load of dye through aqueous effluent during dying process which leads to both environmental and economic concerns. Liquid liquid extraction of dye from the dyebath effluent with annular centrifugal extractor using iso-amyl alcohol and cationic surfactant were undertaken. Among the sixteen solvents screened, isoamyl alcohol showed highest dye extraction of dyes from the textile dyeing effluents. Several parameters such as solvent flowrate, dye bath flowrate, CTAB concentration and extractor rotational speed were investigated to evaluated their impacts on extraction performance. The results obtained indicated that the removal of dyes increase with increase in surfactant concentration and rotational speed of the extractor but in order to reduce the surfactant usage and the rotational speed 0.75% of surfactant and 1200 rpm rotational speed were undertaken. With the optimized parameters 80% of extraction was obtained.
