PHOTOCATALYTIC REMOVAL OF CRYSTAL VIOLET DYE USING ZNO UNDER UV LIGHT

N. UMA SANGARI

Abstract

Photocatalytic decolourisation of Crystal Violet (CV) dye in aqueous solution in presence of ZnOas the photocatalyst was investigated under UV light as the source of irradiation. The photocatalytic decolurisation was studied under various operational conditions including the initial concentration of dye, catalyst loading, pH of the dye and irradiation time. The decolourisation kinetics was pseudo-first order with percentage of decolourisation increasing with increase in irradiation time, catalyst loading and pH. The maximum percentage of decolourisation was achieved in alkaline pH.
