Abstract

Practice of sewage wastewater farming is an important aspect of water resource management. This practice needs specific studies to evaluate its effect on different soils, crops and agro climatic conditions. A study was therefore conducted in the net house of Plant Physiology, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh to test the suitability of two by products of thermal power plant –wastewater and fly-ash on the performance of Brassica juncea.Waste water supplemented with fly-ash proved effective in enhancing the growth, leaf area, specific leaf area, specific leaf weight, photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (g), water use efficiency, yield, oil yield and oil quality. The physico-chemical parameters of wastewater met the irrigational characteristics, being well within the permissible limits as outlined by Food and Agriculture Organization.
