BIODEGRADATION OF ANILINE BY IMMOBILIZED CASEOBACTER SP. AC-1.

V. N. CHARDE AND A.O. INGLE

Abstract

Caseobacter sp. Ac -1 isolated from soil by enrichment culture technique was found to be capable of metabolizing aniline and growth was supported by aniline as carbon and nitrogen source. The cells were immobilized in sodium alginate gel and used in aniline degradation studies. The beads with immobilized bacterial cells were recycled six times in batch culture studies with increased rates of degradation. The initial and final rates of degradation were 93.3 mg/L/h and 214 mg/L/h respectively.
