VERMICOMPOSTING OF KITCHEN WASTE BY USING EISENIA MIDA (SAVIGNY)SURENDRA S. SUTHAR, P(OTI WATTS, MANPREET SANDHU, SUGANDHA RANA, ANUPAMAbstract Composting earthworms species Eisenia jetida (Savig) was used to breakdown the kitchen waste mixed with leaf litter in 3:1 ratio for 120 days. Eletida cause a significant (P<0.01) increasement in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium while decreasement (p<0.01) in organic carbon, C/N and C/P ratio as compare to control bedding material. In compare to control treatment vermibed with E. filida showed 1.07, 109.4, 13.2 and 24.7% more increasment in carbon, total nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, respectively. Population was obtained 176.0±9.91 at the end of experiment while mean individual biomass increased 24.58% after 120 days of vermicomposting.
